March of the Earrings

Here are some of the earrings that I finished over the weekend.

This first group includes a snazzy pair of pumpkins with green Swarovski crystals, two festival red holiday light bulbs and a dashing pair of golden witch's hats with fire opal Swarovski crystals to set them off.

This group has a pair of jet black raven feathers, hand sculpted and adorned with denim blue Swarovski crystals.  A pair of evil Cthulhu post earrings are next, along with a pair of dove feathers with blue undertones and light blue miniature Swarovski crystals.

A pair of gray earrings, featuring a heart sunburst in the center.  Two Death Star pendants sit in the middle, both featuring a tigereye polished bead.  The final piece is a pair of hair barrettes, featuring a rainforest tree frog sitting amongst colorful foliage.  The perfect accessory!

Meet Easter Cthulhu...

Meet Easter Cthulhu....the Easter Bunny's very distant, undersea cousin.

Easter Cthulhu also enjoys painting eggs and hiding them around as a wonderful surprise for the unsuspecting human.

Unfortunately, this little guy could not wait and hatched prematurely! Easter Cthulhu was surprised to have his beautiful work shattered by the impatient youngling...scattering decorated egg shells onto the ground and him!

It is alright, though...Easter Cthulhu has plenty of paint left and an unlimited source of eggs beneath the icy waves.  He doesn't mind starting over, because there will be plenty of time for hiding the eggs along the shoreline for unsuspecting children to find.

Who knows?  Maybe even you will find one of his delightful egg surprises!

In all seriousness, I had way too much fun creating this little guy! Everything just fell into place as I was working and I have to admit, he is probably my favorite little Cthulhu I have made so far.  :D  What do you think?

Work Table Wednesday

So, while at work the other day...my mind started to wander towards the upcoming holiday and it hit me!

Easter Cthulhu!

This is a work in progress (WIP) picture, but he's slowly starting to develop...stay tuned as this creation grows, along with his story ;)  If you are good, maybe he will bring you a basket of 'goodies!'

Cthulhu Has a Heart

Remember this little cutie pie?

Well, I entered him into a Valentine's Day Contest on Jerry's Art-a-rama!

There are some amazing and beautiful pieces of art on the website!  You should check them all out and vote for your favorite ;)

Voting is for two more days, so hop to it!  Cthulhu needs lovins' too!

Work Table Weekend

If you remember from my last post (which was a little while ago, sorry for the delay in updating...ice storms, work, craziness, you know, the typical the life stuff), I was working on an army of Cthulhus.  Well, they have continued to transform and we now have a third Santa Cthulhu that has emerged from the abyss.

He has donned a festival Santa hat and settled among a fluffy pile of snow.  Soon, he will have a snowball, to strike out at all with icy doom. :)

Pirate Crab!

So, my dad requested a special sculpture from me for Christmas. He wanted a pirate blue crab that had taken up residence on Blackbeard's sunken ship.

After baking, before painting:

We brainstormed for quite awhile on all the different options before settling on a crab with an eyepatch and missing claw that was replaced by a fishing hook, of course!

After baking, painting and giving:

Argh...I'll guard yer parents' kitchen table with me broadsword!

Seriously, I forgot to take his picture before wrapping him up and traveling home for Christmas.  So, enter beautiful green tablecloth backdrop :p

Oh, and did I mention my Dad also wanted an oyster..."with attitude"..this one turned out more like a muppet...

But, he had such a hilariously cute expression, I couldn't bear to smoosh him back up into a lump of clay.  That happens sometimes..what you start out creating, might not turn out like you envisioned him...but maybe something better.  He even got a pearl!

Holiday Gifts, Part 3

Ok, technically Christmas is not for two more days, but, I am going to take a gamble and guess that my Mom will be so busy entertaining us, that she will not be reading my blog, LOL!

Obviously, this necklace is for her.  I actually used the same pattern when I created my pendant back in the summer time.  I thought it would be nice to both have the same flower, even when we are so far apart.

Holiday Gifts, Part 2

I am so excited for this evening!  A friend and I are going to see the Nutcracker Ballet!  I have always wanted to see a live production of it and have watched it for years on the public broadcasting stations while usually wrapping gifts.

I am giving her this as a surprise for her holiday gift.  She has made me three beautiful mugs in her pottery studio and she loves cats, having two of her own, so I thought she would like this design.

Surprisingly, it was very hard to get a good picture of this piece.  There are so many colors incorporated, but pictures definitely do not do it justice.  I used multiple watercolors and mica powders to add color to the scene of this cat looking out over the sunrise (or perhaps sunset)?

Holiday Gifts

Ah, the holiday season is fast approaching and everyone is scrambling to finish their last minute shopping, baking, wrapping and gift making!  I took Friday off from work in order to finish up my holiday shopping and to finish up some holiday projects.

Since we are celebrating the season with one family today, I will go ahead and share their gifts with you.  As the upcoming holiday approaches and the gifts are given out, I will reveal each one to you.

Some of you might remember the pendant I made earlier this year, using image transfer, clay and Magic-Glos?  Well, I decided to incorporate that into my gift making this year.

This heart pendant featuring primroses will be going to my boyfriend's mom for Christmas.  It uses a combination of clay, watercolor, mica powders and resin to create an eye-catching piece.

While his sister will also receive a pendant, featuring a more artistic style flower.  I hope they enjoy them.  Stay tuned for more projects!  What are you making this holiday season?

What's been on my culinary table...

So, I'm alternating between my clay table and my kitchen.  This week, I've been making candies and goodies for presents.  I love making things for others, whether it's with clay or dough, chocolate or stones.  There's something about putting your heart into a gift and seeing it received with joy.

Now, for my utter geekdom.  I bought the Han Solo in Carbonite Ice Cube Tray from ThinkGeek for my boyfriend's birthday last month. After stumbling across it the other day while going through some of my candy molds, I had a "EUREKA" moment.

Yes, it's Han...in chocolate.  Actually, it's Han in Peppermint Bark!  Hey, just because you are frozen in carbonite does not mean that you cannot celebrate the holiday season.  I mean, seriously....who wants to miss out on winter peppermint goodies??

Han, in festive winter packaging!

Other goodies that I worked on for my co-workers included pumpkin spice cookies with white chocolate drizzle and soft peppermint sticks dipped in dark chocolate, followed by white chocolate.

I cannot get the smell of peppermint off of me.  At all.  The cats won't stop following me around the house...help!
